汉娜•利文森（Hanna Levenson），博士，作为一名临床医生、教师/教练员以及研究者，专门研究短程心理治疗领域30年。她撰写的论文超过75篇，另外还撰写了两本著作，《短程动力与人际心理治疗简明指导》（Concise Guide to Brief Dynamic and Interpersonal Psychotherapy，2002）和《限时动力心理治疗：临床实践指导》（TIme-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy: A Guide to Clinical Practice，1995），后者被行为科学书籍服务中心（Behavioral Science Book Service）选为“当月最好书籍”（book-of-the-month）。她还有三部专业录像，《计算每一次会谈的时间》（Making Every Session Count，1999）、《限时动力心理治疗》（Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy，2008），以及《随时间推移的短程动力治疗》（Brief Dynamic Therapy Over Time，2009）。

Most people who are coming for therapy are in emotional pain, and they want to have this pain alleviated as soon as possible. They are not fascinated by their psyches, nor do they seek mental health perfectionism. p 5

the therapy should provide an opportunity to foster some changes in behavior, thinking, and feeling, permitting more adaptive coping, improved interpersonal relationships, and a better sense of one's self. Brief dynamic psychotherapy requires the therapist to be an active participant in the process. However, activity is only needed to the extent necessary to maintain the focus, foster a positive alliance, and make progress within a certain amount of time......What it more appropriately entails is an awareness of the goals of the work and a plan of how to get there, while being sensitive to the client's presentation and the context of the clinical material. Thus, therapist activity can range from supportive interventions (e.g. reassurance, strengthening of adaptive defenses) to more exploratory ones (e.g. interpretation, confrontation) depending upon factors (e.g. strength of the therapeutic alliance) emerging in the session as well as client characteristics (e.g. psychological health, qualit...

Thus the child not only has an internalized set of expectancies about how he or she will be treated by others, but also an internalized model of how one sees, feels about, and treats one's self that is a reflection of how one has been treated by others.

Bowlby postulated that a securely attached child (i.e., a child who has been responded to by caregivers in a contingent, helpful, and loving manner whether distressed or contented) comes to expect that there are no aspects of the self that cannot be noticed, responded to, and dealt with. However, children who are not securely attached (i.e., who have been responded to sporadically, noncontingently, inadequately, or inappropriately) learn that when they are under threat, they cannot count on others to keep them safe. p 35
